Curriculum:
The school utilizes the Learning Without Tears program in teaching the children how to write not only letters but numbers and also learn shapes. Mat Man is also used as a teaching tool. This program helps to teach body awareness and creativity through different songs and stories that we share with the students. Throughout the year we study such things as the solar system, ocean life, recycling, hibernation, animal kingdoms, U.S. history, holiday celebrations around the world, along with the subjects of science, math, reading, writing, art and much much more.
About our Day:
The classes have a monthly theme that we base our academic planning around for the morning and afternoon classes. We like to balance between student-led and teacher directed activities for the children. We expose them to a variety of themes that perk their curiosity and get them thinking about the world around us. The daily lessons/activities for the morning class are a bit more open ended as we are helping the children get used to being in a school setting. The afternoon class is geared for the children who will be going on to Kindergarten. We spend more time in this class on activities that will bring school success, such as but not limited to, name writing practice, letter recognition of upper and lowercase letters along with their sounds, counting and number recognition, and expressing themselves through language.
